The Girl with all the Gifts by M.R. Carey

I recently read ‘The girl with all the gifts’ by M.R Carey. To be honest, I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy this book (or even read on until the end). But it sure does get you in.

This is very different to my usual read. A thriller based on the apocalypse, it is set in the not too distant future, in a medical facility. The children are the future; just not the way they imagine. Melanie is particularly special. Exceptionally bright and aware, she is continually full of surprises. Melanie is proof that the unexpected can and does happen, and we should never underestimate the individual, even a ten year old girl. It will keep you guessing, right up until the last few pages

This is definitely for the more mature reader. At 461 pages, the content is sometimes confronting and the language at times adult. I thoroughly recommend it.
